PROBLEM

Identifying and prioritizing customer value opportunities is crucial for any organization's strategy. We must focus on differentiating and creating value by addressing customer needs. Efficient cross-functional team collaboration helps us understand customer problems comprehensively, facilitating effective solutions that are scalable, commercially viable, and align with our values and regulatory standards. Speed and continuous customer input are vital in this process. How do you build it from the ground up?

MY ROLE

As a founding designer, I gradually enhanced the collaboration among cross-functional product development squads. This improvement accelerated the speed of research, validation of ideas, and improved the quality of handoffs. Despite economic challenges, I strategically expanded the design function, building a team of four to cater to three main products and branding/marketing needs.

DESIGN AS A FUNCTION

TIMELINE TO SUCCESS

AS WE GROW

The new challenge appears: how can we make sure that
design can support the business and product development
thoroughly?
We had to identify what skills we need, where we
are strong, and what are the gaps.

JUST ENOUGH PROCESS

The design process objective is to guide. Our aim is not to
make one-size-fits-all process, but rather to equalize the gaps.
And to build a shared understanding, set the expectations for all
product-development teams.

BUILDING HABITS

All these efforts make sense if they are applied on practice and truly
adopted. That’s why I organized a team workshop where everyone brought up their
with the grounding principles and we built up our shared believes.

The next steps were to establish some rituals and empower the team to bring their own
know-hows and build techniques to reach success.

HAVING FUN

One of our rituals was to share 2-3 photos

And we had monthly knowledge sharing
